CASE STUDY / MANUFACTURING
Feniex Industries
Partnership began with infrastructure stabilization and technology planning
Layered cybersecurity modernization accelerated
Potential payment-diversion exposure stopped in 2023*
Prepared by TechProComp Managed IT | Austin, Texas
Executive Summary
When TechProComp began working with Feniex Industries in 2017, the company had invested in a brand-new data center, but the underlying IT architecture still followed a traditional model: critical systems remained on premises, redundancy was limited, and mature backup and disaster recovery capabilities were not yet in place.
Daily operations also depended on technology that required improvement. QuickBooks database performance was slow. Email flow issues affected reliability. Traditional antivirus did not prevent malware from appearing in the environment.
COVID-19 exposed the limitations of that design. Feniex remained operational with reduced onsite staffing, while management needed secure, reliable access from outside the building. The infrastructure and security model was not built for a distributed workforce or an increasingly aggressive threat landscape.
TechProComp helped Feniex move from conventional IT support toward a modern technology and cybersecurity strategy: stronger resilience, secure access, layered security controls, improved email protection, proactive monitoring, and a foundation designed to support continued growth.

ENGAGEMENT
Managed IT, cybersecurity, infrastructure resilience, business continuity, strategic IT guidance
PRIMARY GOAL
Secure and scale operations without slowing manufacturing growth
OUTCOME
A stronger, more resilient technology platform prepared for modern operations and cyber risk
A modern facility built on a traditional IT model
Feniex was willing to invest in technology, but the original architecture did not provide the resilience, security, or operational flexibility a fast-growing manufacturer would eventually require.
On-Premises Dependence
Core operations were concentrated onsite, with the business highly dependent on physical infrastructure and local access.
No Mature Backup or DR
There was no comprehensive business continuity or disaster recovery strategy protecting critical systems.
No High Availability
The new data center was deployed without the redundancy and fault-tolerance needed for mission-critical operations.
Slow Business Applications
QuickBooks database performance created friction for users and slowed day-to-day workflows.
Malware Despite Antivirus
Traditional endpoint protection alone was insufficient; malware still appeared within the environment.
Recurring Email Problems
Email-flow issues created unnecessary disruption and risk in business communications.
The infrastructure had been purchased for growth, but it had not yet been engineered for resilience, remote operations, or modern cyber risk.
COVID-19 changed operations overnight
Remote work was no longer optional. It became a business continuity requirement.
When the pandemic began, Feniex remained open, but with a limited number of employees onsite. Management quickly recognized that business continuity could no longer depend only on access inside the facility.
Users, managers, and systems needed secure connectivity outside the traditional office perimeter. At the same time, cybercriminals were increasingly targeting email, credentials, payments, remote access, and business workflows.
The challenge was not simply to “turn on remote access.” The challenge was to protect employees wherever they worked while keeping production and administration moving.
THE NEW REQUIREMENTS
- Secure remote work without relying on the office perimeter
- Protection for users, devices, applications, and email
- Better monitoring and faster visibility into suspicious activity
- Business continuity and recovery planning
- Technology decisions tied to company growth

SOLUTION DELIVERED
Infrastructure and business resilience
Technology modernization was not treated as a single project. It was approached as an operational foundation that supports availability, secure access, productivity, and future scale.
01 / Infrastructure Review
Evaluate the traditional architecture
- Review server and data center architecture
- Identify single points of failure
- Prioritize systems critical to operations
- Plan modernization aligned with business needs
02 / Availability
Move beyond single-system risk
- Improve redundancy strategy
- Address availability gaps in critical workloads
- Strengthen operational monitoring
- Reduce dependency on reactive repairs
03 / Business Continuity
Prepare for disruption
- Implement backup and recovery planning
- Develop disaster recovery strategy
- Document recovery priorities
- Align recovery with operational impact
04 / Application Performance
Improve daily productivity
- Investigate QuickBooks database slowness
- Address underlying performance constraints
- Improve access to business applications
- Reduce workflow delays for employees
For a manufacturer, resilient technology is not just an IT improvement. It protects production schedules, customer commitments, finance workflows, and the ability to grow without operational disruption.
Layered cybersecurity built for modern work
Traditional antivirus could not address the full risk landscape. TechProComp implemented a layered approach designed to protect identities, endpoints, networks, applications, email, and business transactions.
01 / Secure Access
Users protected anywhere
- SASE secure access model
- Zero Trust principles
- Password manager deployment
- Reduced reliance on the network perimeter
02 / Visibility and Monitoring
Earlier detection of risk
- SIEM monitoring
- Security alert visibility
- Investigation support
- Better awareness of emerging threats
03 / Endpoint and Application Control
Stop unapproved execution
- ThreatLocker application control
- Vulnerability management
- Penetration testing
- Reduce exploitable weaknesses
04 / Email Protection
Defend critical communications
- AI-powered email filtering
- Improved phishing detection
- Better payment-fraud protection
- Reduced business email risk
Cybersecurity is an operational reliability layer – designed to protect the business without slowing the business down.
The moment the strategy proved its value
2023 PAYMENT-DIVERSION ATTEMPT
$250,000
According to TechProComp’s project account, a malicious actor attempted to divert a high-value payment. Security controls identified the threat and blocked the transaction before the funds were lost.
Email security matters
AI-powered email filtering improves the chance of identifying suspicious messages before users act.
Layered controls matter
Security is stronger when email protection, monitoring, secure access, and process awareness work together.
Business outcomes matter
Preventing one successful fraud event can protect far more value than a year of reactive IT support.
From technology expense to business protection
This incident demonstrated the purpose of modernization: to protect cash flow, preserve executive confidence, reduce operational disruption, and help the company continue growing securely.
Incident details are summarized for case-study purposes and should be reviewed with the client before external publication.
